Creating an event based on the curatorial idea and the primary purpose of the biennale:”To make the exhibition a meeting place between visitors, art and artists.”
Creating non-verbal natural-inspired and influenced – Space.
RestArt uses the empty, abandoned San Biagio islet at Grand Canal in Venice (an empty, almost empty construction and ship waste collection facility) to uncover thoughts. Here the proposed arrangement of the environment and the installational artistic-architectural solution consists of three main elements: Freedom Square (a 100-meter-diameter white canvas bud), the Night Tunnel (combining 4 sea containers into a single, 48-meter expositional tunnel equipped with the exposition of the Lithuanian art centenarians’ evolution) and fluttering White lighthouse (20 meter high and 4 meter diameter canister).
Such a temporary ensemble would be worthy of discoveries and searches for itself, as well as the cosmic direction of human creativity.
Next to the newly created secular white pillar – Freedom Square, as an introduction and a transition – a long binocular – the Lithuanian centuries-old trail – the train The reality of a night tunnel, like a stopped section, of visions.
The horizontal volume is dedicated to the memory of the emigrants, the most prominent, centuries-old Lithuanian creators. A joint exhibition is held nowadays. Using the documentary, artistic and reproductive material, an abstract image of the heritage is created, the disclosure of the present cultural environment in which we are present.On the opposite side than the tunnel of the night, a vertical accent is created on the coast – the White Lighthouse.
100 white flags and sailings, and everlasting heavens, earth … waters.
This is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Lithuania, and an invitation to the guests to the national pavilion.It is a meditative place, a rest art or a restart field, an open island of nature and culture, a place of universal fellowship. Here, seeing and thinking are exchanged with mere exposition and experience. If in most cases the national pavilions invite to pure concepts, social research, and reportage stands, sometimes accompanying small installations, here, on the contrary, there is talk of a momentary architecture, a huge installation, inviting to a state of possible marvel, laced through the interaction of nature and culture. The pure architectural space and the survival of her body. Relationship to the nature and culture of the Venice islands (towers, squares, flags, sails … linen … letters).If we suppose that the Venice Biennial temporarily becomes a small world that creates a variety of mood, then this is a small Lithuania-island, invited to a sense of freedom and tranquility.
Such an installation architectural grid (the pattern of the world of writing (White Writings) and the acoustics as the importance of space), which itself is not the purpose, is a possible bridge, place, transition and window. The architectural volume is formed relative to a much larger part of the air. Zero level and possible restart location.
Whirlwind, fluttering, silent … What can not be hard, becomes / is indescribable, magical, seductive and springs … sailors, flags, circles. Yes, it’s material. Yes, it’s a white wind body that seems to reprogram code systems that are not logically or textually overlooked, but just fall into their windy inside.
If Albert, after Brunelleschi’s Flower Dome, said that his structure “is intended to cover the whole Tuscan people with a shadow”, giving it a cosmic and political significance, today the Lithuanian pavilion “RestArt” will invite the expulsion.
The White Ensemble temporarily, gently expands and delights the Venetian beauty of urban landscape. Although reminding them of the classical square with the tower, their windy lifestyle and scale may invite other types of architectural experiences.
