Basanavičius and our own self-esteem..JUSTIFICATION:A bright, transparent and inspirational new small ensemble in Vilnius is being created in view of the main, historic-urban-mythological north-south axis, with spectacular vertical dominant towers.Starting from the Failure Tower and continuing to see the bell tower of the Cathedral, St. John’s Tower, the Town Hall (with the addition of the L.Stuokos-Gucevičius-designed tower) to the ensemble, which also offers an arch-cubic vertical, as well as an axle with Dawn Gate.The new vertical scroll was at the junction of old houses (demolished in the Soviet era), in which the angle was developed as an accent (bringing to the tower, through a lumber or developing a verticals of the staircase).As we can see from the visual axis, the new vertical does not go through the historic axes, but adds them meaningfully..Still, the white amphitheater square becomes vacant as the foundation and center of the ensemble.This is a volumetric solution for highlighting free space. The structure of the three layers: open free squares, in the south – green volumes (whole vegetation) and in the north – the Dawn Tower.Unlike most other examples of the world and Lithuania, where the object is placed in the middle of the squares, in this composition, the Free Space becomes the basis.This could reflect the ideological goal of life of J. Basanavičius, which was destined to come to an end – to bring people, myth, heritage and place to the center of freedom,who knows, with his companions, he has left us as a gift. While grateful and as if traveling through space, we have an architectural-sculptural-natural situation, whose actors and creators are now ourselves and perhaps leave an impressive, inspiring Freedom legacy for the coming times..Urbanistically, the proposed solutions solve the current construction. The vertical accent brings together the center of the intersection of the streets, while the ensemble’s overall composition also complements and extends the aesthetic and scale content of the Philharmonic.In order to achieve a harmonious artistic integration into the existing multivariate and multifaceted historical-urban environment, choosing solutions that are cumulative and soft. The dominant circles grow to one’s own: Aušra’s tower as a visual colony accent, the middle of a white square with a mild deck and an evergreen garden, composed of “colonial” trees (junipers, semicircles, tujas, etc.).By changing the concentric and centrist beginnings, the project aimed to create a unitary integral, but distinct character, inside which a sense of living space would form..The artistic accent is the “Dawn” tower (18.00 × 3.70m) and its transferable meaning can be remembered by Dr. The meaning and the thought of the “Tower” of the figure of Jonas Basanavičius.In history, we mostly find examples where column towers are built to mark the big deflections (Trajan Column), victories, or highlight different kinds of memory. On the square up to 16 meters (~ 7m2) upstairs there is a sight and a possible lifting place for the historic flag.The harmonious material choice, the historical-urban context, the creation of mood and philosophical meaning, will concentrate the character of the ensemble into coziness, musicality and meditativeness..MATERIALS are selected close to the existing environment (granite, metal, glass, wood). In order to highlight the symbolic meaning of light space, a white stone or white concrete coating is selected on the surface of the square, with several tons of luminous solutions chosen for other surfaces than in the environment. The covered area is provided for small, very light gray granite blocks (4x4cm). Stairs and supporting walls – concrete castings using white cement. The tower cover is provided with polished (mirror) steel in combination with a warm shade of tempered glass. The materiality of the main artistic accent, albeit very modern, remains a distinctive witness of the past, reflecting the past and the future.
